the Medical Physics Dept staff supports the units of Radiography/Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Department of Medical Imaging regarding:
  • Radiation protection and radiation safety of patients and personnel.
  • Establishing and maintaining a quality control and quality assurance program.
  • Performance of acceptance testing, calibration, and safety surveys of imaging equipment.
  • Implementation of required radiation monitoring and composing of radiation protection studies and hazard reports required for periodic licensure and certification.
  • Development of purchasing and acceptance specifications for imaging equipment.
  • Optimization of clinical imaging procedures.
  • Research and development of new imaging techniques for improved diagnostic uses of x-ray radiation and ultrasound.
  • Teaching and participation in continuing education programs for medical students, radiology residents, graduate students, physicians, nurses, technologists, ancillary personnel and other staff.
