Pregnancy Radiation

Radiation exposure during pregnancy often prompts many physicians to contact the Medical Physics Department Information Service. Patients are exposed to ionizing radiation intentionally or accidentally during the first postconception weeks. To estimate conceptus dose we use methods developed in our department (please see... "Research Activities: Radiation and Pregnancy"). To determine the dose, factors such as patient size, gestation period, equipment used, and technical considerations have to be taken into account. We also provide information to pregnant physicians and other personnel, to help them make decisions regarding radiation exposure during their pregnancy.
