He received his BSc. in Physics from the University of Athens in 1991, his MSc in Medical Physics from the University of Patras in 1995, and his PhD in 1999 from the Medical School of the University of Crete. He joined the Medical Physics Department of the Medical School of the University of Crete in 1996 as Scientific Associate. In 2000 he was elected Lecturer, in 2005 Assistant Professor, in 2015 Associate Professor and in 2020 Professor of Medical Physics in the same institution.


Research interests


Dosimetry, image quality and technology of CT imaging
Quantification of the radiation dose and associated radiogenic risks from radiological procedures
Optimization of patient/occupational exposure and image quality in radiological procedures


Publications in academic journals (last 5 years)


He is author or co-author in more than 110 scientific papers published in peer-review journals indexed in Index Medicus and PubMed, which have received more than 2800 citations (h-index 29, Scopus Feb 2020). He has participated as an invited speaker in more than 100 national/international congresses/seminars. He is member of the Editorial Board of the journal Physica Medica - European Journal of Medical Physics (EJMP) and serves as Reviewer in peer-review journals such as ‘Medical Physics’, ‘Physics in Medicine and Biology’, ‘Radiology’, ‘European Radiology’, ‘Investigative Radiology’, ‘Journal of American College of Cardiology’ and ‘Circulation’, among others .
