Studies

Nikolaos Theocharopoulos was born in Athens, Greece in 1966. He received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Crete in 1988, his MSc in Applied Radiation Physics from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 1993, and his PhD in Medical Physics from the Medical School of the University of Crete in 2007. He worked with the Medical Physics Department of the Medical School of the University of Crete from 2000 to 2004 as a scientific associate, and as a researcher on the “Safety and efficacy of computed tomography (SECT): a broad perspective” Euratom research project for the Medical Physics Department of the University of Crete from 2005 to 2008. He was also scientific associate and laboratory instructor with TEI of Crete (1997-2014). From 2014 to date he serves as a medical/hospital physicist for the Medical Physics Department of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece.


Research interests

His research interests include the estimation of patient radiogenic risk and radiation exposure in Radiography, Fluoroscopy and Computed Tomography as well as the assessment and optimization of occupational exposure from fluoroscopically assisted interventional procedures in Radiology, Cardiology and Orthopaedics.
